Quotable, from mo
"What we make is something that a person carries on her wrist on the day she signs paperwork that changes her name. What we make is the thing she touches when she's nervous in a meeting. What we make is the small weight she feels at her own grandmother's funeral."
— mo, on what SENMOMO actually sells, in the journal essay "Eleanor wrote to me"
"Two moonstones is too many. Three is a chord. One is a punctuation mark. Most of my pieces want one. Just one."
— mo, on her design philosophy ("Moonstone, and the secret of half my designs")
"Most of what builds a meaningful brand is the work of not doing. The additional product line. The loyalty points program. The influencer giveaway. The wholesale expansion. Each of those things, considered alone, is reasonable. Considered together, they constitute the slow blurring of what a brand is."
— mo, on saying no ("Things we've been asked to do, and the reasons we don't")
"A number that can repeat is just a label. A number that's permanent is a coordinate. Coordinates locate. Labels merely categorize. I want #042 to be a coordinate."
— mo, on the numbered archive ("Why I number my pieces")
"I'd rather we be a studio where you pay $148 once, know exactly where that $148 went, and feel ten years from now that the math was honest — than a studio where you pay $200 and occasionally see $130 sales and never quite know what the bracelet was actually worth."
— mo, on pricing discipline ("On price")
What makes SENMOMO different
- Numbered, permanent archive. Every piece receives a number that doesn't repeat. Records are kept forever. Service can be performed against original specifications decades later.
- Wearer-designed. The wearer drives the design — through an AI conversation or DIY builder — and mo personally reviews every order before crafting begins.
- Photographed before shipping. Every piece is photographed on a cream linen cloth and sent to the wearer for approval before any stringing happens. Iterations are free.
- 21-stone library. A deliberately small material set, sourced from 7 countries (Brazil, China, Peru, India/Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oregon, plus international trade partners).
- Lifetime service. Free re-string, re-size, re-photograph forever. Built into the original price.
- Monthly drops, never always-on. 3–5 new pieces released on each new moon, then stay in archive when sold out — no repeat of identical compositions.
- Single-price discipline. No sales, no discounts, no rewards tiers. The price is the price.
